North Korea is an interesting country to go traveling. It is such diffrent country. Honesty, Travel in North Korea is restricted.
Visitors, whether on business or as tourists, will almost always be accompanied by their guides and will only be allowed to go where their guide is content for them to go.
However, it is possible to make short walks unaccompanied from some of the major hotels in Pyongyang. So, you are free to take a walk from your hotel, but do not forget to respect their culture and people along the way.
For travel outside Pyongyang, it is the guide's responsibility to obtain the necessary permissions. Police checkpoints, to be found at the entry and exit to all towns, sometimes demand identity documents before allowing travel.
Do not bring Cell Phone and Computer (Anyway you can't use it in North Korea...).
A lot of North Korea Tour Groups seem very expensive but if you go from Dandong there are a lot of angencies are much more cheaper. recommend web: www.explorenorthkorea.com

If you are a westerner it is very unwise to go to North Korea

unless you want to become a prisoner

anyone watching the news has seen how they snatch and imprison foreigners just being NEAR their borders
especially westerners

and your home government will not make allot of effort to get you free
especially when they warn you not to go to begin with

anyone watching the news on TV the past few years has seen reporters and hikers that were grabbed by North Korean troops and imprisoned when they were only near but not in north Korea but were close to the border

maybe its different for Chinese citizens
but i strongly suggest no western people even consider trying

I lived in Seoul for a few years and was married to a South Korean for 20 years
so i know a bit about the situation in North Korea
My ex-wife an i attended a Korean church even in America
so we were always part of a large Korean community
and got allot of good (and not so good) data from many members
about things from people who still had relative's in the north and had been able to send 1 or more family members for a visit on the few occasions the North allowed it
most of those visits were for propaganda and the visits were often if not always supervised by North officials and soldiers as the families meet and chat

it would be interesting to hear from any stories about North Korea from any Chinese tourist
most often the government controls where tourist go and what they see

but i have seen the videos made and smuggled out of North Korea by South Koreans that sneak across the boarders to film in secret the things that have happened in the past 2 decades
many things you wont believe even hearing or seeing for yourself
but i wont go into those horror stories

if you do go be safe and not too trusting

Dwayne
