Thanks for the encouragement, but I'm not sure I deserve any respect before I've actually completed the crossing. Anyhow, just getting signed up, qualified and prepared has proven such an ordeal that I've decided it isn't worth the trouble. There were even some news on www.lifeofguangzhou.com the other day indicating that the swim would be postponed to coincide with a particularly high tide coming up later in the month, but when I tried to search for it now I wasn't able to recover it. I think you get the idea...

Honestly I would not dare to do that. I have high respect for you and shall you survive it, give us a sign. Just because now we see some blue sky here and there does not mean there is no environment pollution. Which is maybe the reason they keep it a secret? Good luck to you in any case…

A friendly and reliable local assisted me and it turns out the registration process is covered in red tape. Once registered (bear with me, I'm still not able to appreciate the details of the HOW), it appears you will be teamed up with your neighbourhood and then have to qualify to actually be allowed to the starting line. Also, it seems that registration deadlines are long since passed, but I'm told "there's always a way". So I'll keep investigating and post any useful info I come up with on this page. By the way, I had a closer look at the river yesterday and it made me wonder, am I suicidal to do this? Or do I at least need to talk to my insurance company before dipping into the Pearl Slush?

Thomas, bonjour :). I also don't know how to sign up. I have a love / hate relationship withthat site in question, they always give 3/4 of the infor and let you guess the rest. I missed the dragon boat race because of them... argh... let us know when you found out.

There's not a whole lot going on in this forum, but I'll dive in anyway: Anyone who knows how to sign up for this event? http://www.lifeofguangzhou.com/node_10/node_37/node_85/2009/07/03/124661330966691.shtml
